Coaches are responsible for familiarizing themselves with these standards.

Orono Youth Football (OYF) Coaches’ Code of Conduct

The primary responsibility of every coach is to create a safe, positive, and developmental environment where youth athletes can learn the game of football. Coaches are expected to develop players both on and off the field, emphasizing sportsmanship, respect, teamwork, and the fundamentals of the game.

Coaches are responsible for the conduct of players, assistant coaches, and spectators at all times—before, during, and after practices, games, and league events. Any inappropriate behavior, as determined by game officials or the OFA Board of Directors, may result in penalties, suspension, expulsion, or forfeiture.

• Prioritize Player Safety & Wellbeing: I will ensure a physically and emotionally safe environment, including adherence to all safety and concussion protocols.

• Develop the Whole Athlete: I will emphasize fundamentals, sportsmanship, teamwork, and character over winning.

• Foster a Respectful & Inclusive Environment: I will ensure all players feel valued and will address any bullying, harassment, or misconduct immediately.

• Maintain Professional Boundaries: I will uphold appropriate behavior at all times, including on social media, and ensure safe interactions with players.

• Create a Positive Experience: I will foster a fun, supportive environment where effort is encouraged and mistakes are part of learning.

• Communicate Clearly & Respectfully: I will maintain open and respectful communication with players, parents, and league representatives.

• Ensure Fair Participation: I will support balanced player development and opportunities consistent with league standards.

• Respect the Game: I will demonstrate respect for officials, opponents, and all participants, and uphold the integrity of the sport.

• Uphold League Standards: I will complete required certifications, follow league policies, and ensure all team activities are free from drugs, tobacco, and alcohol.
