A Message from The Coach
My name is Joe McPherson and 2026 will be my eighth year as Orono’s Head Football Coach. I have been coaching in the Orono district since 2009 in either wrestling or football.
As a coach, my purpose is to develop and motivate student athletes to achieve their athletic & life goals through hard work, commitment, integrity & follow through. I put the development of students first.
While I am a competitor and like to win, I do not have the philosophy of winning at all costs. I live my life, inside and outside of coaching, with integrity. By doing this, it shows students that you can win and do the right thing. My philosophy as a coach has always been to follow these 5 key components:
- Enthusiastic, Positive & Committed
- Organized and Prepared
- Communicate
- Be a Competitor (Get After It – Compete Hard)
- Treat Everyone (including opponents) with Respect.
I hold the program and myself accountable for living up to that philosophy. Within my own business and companies, I work for I have always tried to follow this philosophy. As a leader of an organization, I work daily with our team on communication, implementation, and completing tasks on time for our clients. It is important to me and our company we are clear in our values and what we stand for in the community. I implement this into my coaching style. At the beginning of the season, I communicate with all students and parents my expectations and coaching philosophy, students and I meet one-on-one to set their individual goals, we meet throughout the year to see how they are meeting their goals, and I communicate weekly with students and parents.
I hope the information above gives you a little insight into how I run our football program in Orono. I believe strongly in my values and are confident they will align with what you are looking for in a Head Football Coach.
